The William Weech American Legion Post 168 is truly one of a kind. Established in 1946, during segregation, by black WWII veterans returning to Key West. Members build their post home, opening in 1952, with their own hands. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places, and the Florida African-American Heritage Trail. Post 168 at 803 Emma St., Key West, continues to help veterans, their families and the local community.
